DAY 8 14/1/15

Today we began with the bus to Fremantle. Our sightseeing began with the West Australian Maritime Museum. We began by booking our tour to the ovens before we explorers the museum.

The first thing we saw was the general exhibit, we loved the ocean liner section. This is where we saw memorabilia from ocean liners that have all since ceased, even a cool looking menu!

Other exhibits included other maritime memorabilia, and the history of trade right down to the spice trade.

But overall the highlight for us was the America's Cup winning boat Australia II. We saw the ever famous Keel and even Bob Hawke's jacket from the TV interview.

We were impressed with the array of items in the exhibit, all of which fascinated us. We then went to the nearby Kailis Seafood Restaurant what was arguably the best fish chips I've ever had! Like we could have had anything from there every day!!

We then returned to the museum for our Ovens Submarine Tour.

Those smiles capture how much fun we had on this tour. Our guide was a veteran who actually served on one of these Oberon Class Submarines and he captured perfectly what life was like on one of these submarines. A few things that i'll never forget is him telling us that you could never go to the toilet with the curtain or door shut as if you did they would exploit that weakness. He also said the cook would be pressured to bake break as it would improve morale from the smell!

Our next stop was the Fremantle Prison which involved a leisurely walk through town.

We began by meeting our guide Matthew, who took us through all the stages of prison life. Aboave we can see the entry foyer where you got your prison colours.

Here we can see the main prison cell block, which dates back to the 1850's. And it was known to be one of the worst prisons for space and the heat.

Here we can see on the left the plain Protestant Chapel and the right Catholic Chapel. It was the only colour in the whole prison. At the conclusion of this we had a break before our afternoon tour about breakouts.

The tour began with stories about various breakouts before we climbed up one of the watch towers. I couldn't believe there was a toilet in one of those. One important thing was that prison guards gave warning shots, one who didn't was vilified before he quit. It did have an expansive view.

Later on we saw the stocks and the gallows, both of which were very creepy and realistic.

Overall both of the prison tours were also a highlight of our trip. I loved how the guise said at the end, "the best part about this tour is the gates are open, ESCAPE BE FREE!!" We loved his humour and his wealth of knowledge and I recommend that no one misses this tour in Perth.

Our evening involved visiting Capri restaurant in Fremantle. I begin by saying this place is original from the 50's and we loved it. It simply reminded us of our grandma's. We enjoyed our meal and forgot that the place was BYO.
